And when I went and read Alicization, I kept remarking how similar some of his comments about Eugeo were. While reading Progressive, you get a lot of those *very clueless comments* about Asuna from Kirito’s narration- and that’s not surprising, as we know they eventually form a functioning couple. Whether you like the Yujikiri pairing or not, a lot can be said about how he describes Eugeo as someone who has read all of Eugeo’s story as well as is up to date on Progressive. Now: this is reading into things a little more than before, but they both read into it so bear with me-Ĭomparatively speaking, Kirito says a lot of things about Eugeo that he has said about Asuna. In this case, accepting “Kirito, the dual-wielding Black Swordsman” can be equated with accepting not just his online personality, but also his sexuality.
Later on, it happens again it’s much like the fact that in today’s world, coming out is an ongoing and repeated action that doesn’t necessarily get any easier- he might have not hid it as much in ALO, but his reaction still mirrored his reaction back in SAO.ģ) Fastforward to (*spoilers*) Alicization Uniting- in the final fight scene of the light novel, we see him dual-wielding once more, without any awkwardness- after an earlier passage where we see him struggling to accept that “Kazuto” and “Kirito” are both himself. He doesn’t want to just openly admit to people that he’s bisexual- and when he does, there’s a weird reaction.
Hiding it being careful not to reveal it around people being unsure of how to respond when questioned about it having to reveal it again and still being awkward about it. One might expect him to not be as weird about it- especially with a friend- when it happens a second time.Ĭombining those two thoughts, re-imagine them not with a player skill, but rather with sexuality. Even then, when Klein approaches him afterwards, we see him kind of awkwardly look away- he knows it’s out in the open, but he doesn’t want to own up to it.Ģ) Following the mention of the Klein scene: a repeated circumstance in ALO elicits the same but slightly less awkward response. He’s very wary about it and is careful to not let anyone know it’s a skill he possesses, up until a moment where he feels obligated and forced to reveal it. And yes, we often see the “dual-wielding is a metaphor for bisexuality” on our dash during our tumblr browsing time, but even if dual-wielding in and of itself in this context doesn’t represent his sexuality, I’m talking more so about how he treats it as a part of his character.ġ) He hides it. Where, then, do I read into him being a bisexual?įor starters, dual-wielding.
So, not once in the source material do we have this confirmed- as far as the story goes, in either the light novels or the anime, Kirito literally has only dated a member of the opposite sex (and aside from the original web version, Asuna is the only implied partner he’s had). Neither is this me asserting this as a fact, but rather it’s just a bit of fun analysis from this bi guy’s perspective. Before I ramble, let me just start with this: it’s just my personal interpretation and headcanon and is by no means an attack on any one specific ship.
